nasi lemak!!!

haha..yet another post with a food title! i think i've never loved food as much till now. 'coz food is an excellent way to cure homesickness! now whenever i think of a home food i wanna eat, i just google for the recipe and cook it! hehe..thank god we gotta walk like half an hour to school everyday or else we'd be fat pigs by now.

but before i get to the food, i want to share some shots of the scenery over here.

doesn't the forest in the background look like those you see in fantasy movies like Eragon or LOTR? the way the pine trees are beautifully dotted with snow? a pity i couldn't get a nicer and closer shot. i will go attempt to walk nearer just for the sake of a nice photo. the area we're living in is surrounded by woods like that anyways.

here's a shot of a snow covered tree. that's how much snow we've been getting in the past few days. enough to cover the trees and the road and the grass and everything. and enough to wet the bottom of ur pants and ur socks. the building in construction behind the tree is a new hostel i think. looks nice and modern but kind of spoils the scenery i feel.

and on the same day, on the way back from school, the big snowy patches and mounds of snow around me was just tempting me to do something to them. and i remembered our dear friend mr tham tham who has been requesting for a snowman with his name on it ever since the day we told him it's snowing here. i havent exactly made a snowman 'coz i didn't have help, but here's ur name written in a patch of snow. just for you. and yes..a couple walking their dogs walked past when i was taking this shot. so paiseh. haha..i will make a snow angel next! the field behind our dorm is waiting for me to leave my mark!

anyway, on tuesday, the boys treated me to a meal at Ming Palace for helping them with some work. hehehe. Ming Palace is this chinese restaurant downtown which serves buffet lunch for 75sek. It's been much raved about so we've been waiting for a day that we're free to check it out.

the atmosphere was very chinese restaurantish with the chinese lanterns and the typical dim sum restaurant piano music. but the food. ehh...hahaha..it's just like what our catered buffets serve. fried noodles, fried rice, stir fried veges and meats and some chicken and fish. the food i enjoyed most were the honeydews. reminds me of my dad's habit of cutting up fruits and storing them in boxes in the fridge in hope that we will ingest more fruits. while we were there, we noticed that some swedish men just came in, had one serving of the buffet, paid and happily left. these people must have too much money!

after our very stomach bursting meal, we decided to take a walk downtown since we have already paid our 10.40sek bus fare to get there and would be paying another 10.40sek to get back. and so, we visited our favourite pick and mix shop so bb could get his dark chocolate fix for the week!

here's the wonderful candy shop! it has 1 and a half wall paneled with pick and mix, with one wall of it having mostly gummies and milk chocolates, while the other half a wall held dark chocolates with various fillings and stuff. and it's quite cheap! 6.90sek/100g for the gummies side and 9.90sek/100g for dark chocolates. that's about 1.50sgd and 2.20sgd respectively. the huge sphere of colourful stuff are actually bubblegum balls. the shot was specially taken for xueli and ah boy. hahaha..if they were here, they'd buy the whole shop. anyways, the lady working in the shop was very nice about me taking photos in the shop. tack sa mycket!

outside the shop, this was the sight that captured me. an old man holding such a bimbotic looking little doggy. so darn adorable. hahaha. obviously he didn't know i took a shot of him although i was just a couple of metres away. he was waiting for his wife to finish some shopping 'coz we saw them again awhile later. the doggy was shivering in the cold. poor thing. must have gotten it's little paws frozen in the snow. let the doggy wear boots!

one thing about Sweden or perhaps Europe in general. they don't sell bread in small loaves like in Singapore. here's a loaf of bread we bought a couple of days ago:

make a guess of how heavy it is?

900Grams!! almost 1KG of bread! haha..and only a few days to finish it before it expires! the thing is that if we don't buy a huge loaf, the small loaves are all fancy breads with are more expensive than this huge loaf. but we're doing well finishing the bread 'coz we gotta make sandwiches for lunch every other day. i think i won't eat bread for at least 2 months after i get home.

bread aside, i made biscotti yesterday! haha..i saw biscotti in the cafe in school and just thought to make my own 'coz i still had alot of flour left and the oven here is so huge and readily available.

i got the recipe from allrecipe.com. it's supposed to be hazelnut and cinnamon flavoured but cinammon's quite expensive and i don't really like the cinnamon taste so it was just hazelnut biscotti. it's not bad. quite yummy. haha. i wonder what i'll bake next week. maybe a pandan cake? or chocolate cake. hm..

here're a couple of meals that we had in the past few days.

from top, maggie mee with kailan, egg and ham cooked by bb, potato au gratin in cream sauce with carrots, onions and ham created by me, prawn fried rice, oyster kailan and bb's delicious ginger chicken and maggie mee with prawns made by bb for lunch. hehe..feels good to have someone cook lunch for you when you come in from the freezing cold after school. thank you bb!

and speaking of bb, here're some candid shots of him..

1) looking all forlorn with snow stuck in his hair while waiting for the bus in the freezing cold after missing it by 2 seconds because i ran too slowly.

2) random pout after being bullied by his tyrant girlfriend

3) studying hard for his quiz and responding well to being disturbed

4) working hard to cook ginger chicken for me!

am i glad that i'm the one with the camera, else the candid shots will be of me. phew~

and last but not least, before we forget the focus of this post,

Nasi Lemak!!! Complete with scrambled eggs, prawns in spicy minced crab, homemade chicken nuggets and vegs! I couldn't find peanuts and ikan bilis here. =( but it's good enough! the canned coconut milk was surprisingly fragrant and the rice turned out quite well. yay!

alrights! gonna go plan our tour for easter break now! i miss all of you back home!

luv, Junli
