Curry Chicken Vege

After cooking countless pots of instant noodles and washing dishes, I finally made a dish myself! Curry Chicken Vege! BB told me not to eat instant noodle today, so i decided to cook myself something different. Saw this bottle of curry powder lying on the shelf and a packet of fresh milk in the fridge, curry chicken immediately comes into my mind. Thanks to Rongwei, I've some cabbage to go with the chicken in the curry as well. I must say I did the whole thing by trial and error :P First adding only the curry powder then realised it's not salty and spicy enough, then I added salt and pepper which made the curry so much more tastier =D
I am going to leave some for BB to try when she comes back for class later. If she likes it, I will improve it further and make it my pet dish for her :)
Cheers

ice hockey! more egg tarts, rock buns and home cooked chicken rice!

We finally caught an ice hockey match on saturday! The decision to catch the match was rather abrupt -- we were waiting around to buy tickets for our ski trip and we met peter who showed us the place to get the tickets in school and we all decided to catch the match since if Linkoping team lost, we wouldn't get to watch them anymore! the tickets were 90 sek but the experience was worth it.

the match was held at Cloetta centre. Cloetta centre is this "indoor stadium" like place near the railway station here. It's a really huge arena with a sitting capacity of 8500 for an ice hockey match and 11500 for concerts. The venue alone was amazing. We sat at the very top of the stands and got a great birds eye view! The atmosphere for the match was contagious. The fans were really hardcore! not losing out to those at soccer matches at all. in fact, i think an ice hockey match is more fun. You watch in comfort, there's good music, halftime entertainment and fancy lights and stuff.
that's cloetta centre from the side. by the way, cloetta is a brand of chocolates here. the centre is sponsored by the company i think. the chocolates are yummy! my favourite is this one!

it's gotta be one of the reasons for my getting fat. it's sold at 5 for 20sek and comes in dark chocolate version too!

this is the rink after it has been freshly zambonied. looks beautiful! for those familiar with fuji ice palace in jurong east, this rink is at least 3 times that size. i'd love to skate on it! i will buy skates and go skating soon!

the picture in the top left corner was taken when the players broke into a fight. haha..in fact, they fought and one of the guys broke his hockey stick and 1 player from each team was sent off for the third of the game. and there were quite a few more fights after that but not as exciting. anyway, the game was goal less for the first 2 thirds until linkoping woke up their idea and scored 4 goals in the final third! the fans really went crazy! we will definitely be watching at least one match in the coming cup.

oh ya! during the first break, there was this mini match between the junior team. they are so cute! super tiny and falling down all over the place! there was this particularly small kid whose jersey looked like a nightshirt on him. i think he was about 1M tall. so adorable! i wanna put them in my pocket and bring them home! haha.

and here's a photo of the cheerleaders which i forgot to put into the collage.

after the ice hockey match, we went to Martin's for Tacos Night! it was delicious! i made mango sago for him but the mangoes we got were not ripe and hard and not sweet. =( dumb mangoes. we forgot to take tonnes of photos this time round. bleah. but thanx martin for tacos and thanx peter for bringing us to the match!

other than the ice hockey match and dinner at Martin's, we didn't do anything exciting this week but eat!

the top left corner is supper the night before we left for kiruna and the next is lunch on the day we left. both cooked with falukorv, which brings the way to eat falukorv up to 4 with that one 15sek falukorv! value for money or what! haha. and as seen, we have become addicted to sunny side eggs because eggs are relatively cheap and our frying pan is excellent. the bottom left photo is mushroom rice which is very very yummy. i will definitely make it for my family when i go home! and here are my bakes for the week. egg tart round 2 as requested by bb. the egg tarts this time round turned out yummier and more pretty 'coz i baked the shells for awhile before filling them up with custard. and i added a little more water to the pastry. so if any of you are making egg tarts, just some little tips for you! the other bake was like rock cake which i made in home ec class in sec 1. i had no recipe whatsoever. just took out the magarine, sugar and flour and mixed whatever quantity i felt like and it ended up as rock cakes which are yummy. it's like cookies but only softer. but if i had to bake them again, i probably can't 'coz i have no idea how much of each i added. haha..but it's fun to randomly mix dough and see what comes out of it!

on friday, we decided to eat a good meal and there it is. panfried dory fillet and cod fillet with hollandaise sauce with oven roasted tomatoes, button mushrooms and potato wedges and some potato salad. yum yum yum! looking at it makes me hungry all over again. the cod fillet was not too good but the dory was excellent. i can predict us having it quite often.

singaporean food part 1 this week: pork floss bread! haha..i love pork floss! big thank you to bb's big aunt for the 2 huge packets of pork floss she bought us before we left for Sweden. there's still alot left 'coz we can't bear to eat too much of it.

singaporean food part 2: hainanese chicken rice! from scratch! we didn't have a whole chicken so i made do with the frozen drumsticks we bought a while back. i had to add in a chicken stock cube to give it more taste but the chicken turned out quite good. nice and tender and bloody like the usual we get in the hawker centre. the rice wasn't oily enough 'coz i couldn't get enough chicken fat out of the drumsticks but it had the smell, just lacking a little taste but the chicken soya sauce with garlic oil saved it. and carrots boiled in the chicken stock served as the vege part. and there you have it! singaporean hainanese chicken rice right out of a Swedish kitchen!

i really have to stop cooking so much and eating so much and getting fat! the amount of rice i have ate in the last month must be more than what i have eaten in the past year! arh! and i must start studying! exams in 2 weeks! stockholm post will be up soon!

Kiruna: a once in a lifetime experience

the trip to Kiruna was simply incredible. we got to experience so many things for the first time. it's hard to put down in words the times we spent there, even though it was only a 3+ day trip if you minus away the 17 hour train rides.

here's the distance that we travelled in those 17 hours:

1000 over kilometers! Sweden is HUGE!! i think everyone here can have a plot of land the size of Singapore or something like that.

Anyway, we chose the 17 hour train ride over the 1 hr flight 'coz of cost issues but also because the train ride lets us experience the true vastness of the Sweden. But once was enough. If we ever go back to Kiruna, we're sure to take the plane.
i can't think of any better way to blog about this trip but to recap it in days.

Day 0 - 1: choo choo!!
we left linkoping for stockholm with our huge backpacks and shoebag full of food in the afternoon. it's my first time taking the train if you don't count the MRT and my virgin train ride was on a luxurious and modern train.

the train had double decks! haha..we asked for seat with table when we bought the tickets and so we got these seats in it's own compartment right next to the toilet. good seats! for a 2 hour ride at least 'coz the toilet doesn't start to stink.
at stockholm, we had a 3 hour wait so we went in search of the 19 dollar kebab that pearline told us about. we got too hungry after walking a few streets and failing to find the shop so we just went into the next kebab shop we saw and had a huge kebab platter. yums. then we just walked around for the next hour and finally found the kebab shop! and we each ate another kebab in bread. it really was 19 kr! and yummy too! why doesn't linkoping have a 19 kr kebab shop too. =((
satisfied after having filled our tummies with so much kebab, we were ready for our 17 hour train ride! we met up with Pearline and Teckie at the station and boarded the train, then met up with Robin and Linus who had taken the train down from Gothenburg! the train was nothing like the nice and modern one we took from linkoping the stockholm. it was old and the seats were crammed. =( and it was really hard trying to fall asleep in the seats and we were so tired that we forgot to take photos. haha. but the view was really interesting. you'll see the forests turning from green to white as we travelled further north. and there were random houses that pop out between the trees. i really wonder how the people lived there. we finally reached kiruna on thursday at about 4pm. it was really really cold! -20 degC when we reached! and the scenery around was beautiful. all white and the sunset tinted the skies pink and purple. and there were windmills in the distance. it was just so refreshing and breath taking.
we navigated ourselves to the hostel which was quite a distance away and everyone was freezing their fingers and toes off in the very very cold weather. so we were glad to just keep walking and walking until we got to the hostel. i think i've never felt more glad to have my fingers and toes intact. now i know why the swedish like to walk walk walk. we stayed at yellow house hostel that night. it's a pretty good hostel so if anyone's going to kiruna, do check it out. the shot of the thermometer isn't too clear but it really was -20 deg C and even the pot of flowers hanging on the wall was frozen solid and covered with frost. after settling down and thawing ourselves abit, we set off to get dinner and supper at the nearby town area. we introduced teckie to pyttipanna and falukorv, both foods unique to sweden or at least food he hasn't seen in leeds. the pot of water u see in the snow was put there to cool down after we boiled it and it's more effective than a freezer. haha. wonderful -20 deg weather. we managed to see very very faint streaks of northern lights that night too! and pearline even saw a shooting star! but it was the last time any of us came close to the northern lights. =(
the town area was pretty cool. they had snow and ice sculptures everywhere! imagine putting an ice sculpture in the middle of orchard road. it'll turn into water in no time! we finally got to shower and rest after supper and to prepare ourselves for day 2.

Day 2 - 3: into the wilderness we go!

the snow at kiruna is very different from the snow we get at linkoping. the snow in kiruna were like glitters and forms fluffy piles instead of a solid block of snow. and they cannot be used to make snowballs at all! but every snow flake was clear and defined. i miss the kiruna snow already. the main highlight of our trip was the tour we booked from http://www.taubeactivity.com/Nothern.htm . a cab picked us up at 9am and off into the wild we went. it was literally the middle of nowhere since we were all surrounded by snow mountains and snow covered trees. when we arrived, we went into this little cabin in small groups to put on our cold clothes: jumpsuits and winter boots. and we didn't take them off till day 3! the boots were really good 'coz the sole's very thick then you won't get cold from standing in the snow and the pants were good too. the only problem was that the boots were cold when we put our already cold feet in so it resulted in even colder feet which made us all miserable.

the first thing that was on the itenary were dog sleds and snow mobiles to take us to the "campsite". we had to guide the dogs to the sleds from the little boxes they call home. the dogs were really excited to be out of the boxes and were making a hell lot of noise and peeing and pooping everywhere! and it was really really smelly! bb got to lead a doggy and it's a good thing it was really obedient and easy to lead. Henrik, the mastermind behind taube activities, said that these dogs are programmed to pull sleds by nature and would be really excited to do so. and true to his words, once the dogs were tied to the sleds, they started yelping and jumping around, ready to dash. the yellow patches on the snow are....dog pee! haha. smelly dog pee. but the dogs were really pitiful, them being so tiny and having to pull big fat humans like us. it's something i'll never do again after this trip but dog sleds are very common in lapland. after a 10km ride switching between snow mobiles and dog sleds(which bb drove and i sat), we finally reached the place we would stay in for the night.

the campsite was made up of wooden huts. one was the main kitchen, one's a bbq house, another was a sauna and a couple of huts for people to stay in. since we had the biggest group there, we got to stay in the really special lappish hut, along with these 2 really fun german guys we met at yellow house!

but before we get to rest, we had to chop firewood to keep ourselves warm for the night. it's no easy job really but was a good way to warm ourselves up after being frozen on the ride in.

at first we thought that henrik was only joking with us when we were told to make firewood. we thought it was just for the sake of experience and they would give us proper firewood after we've had our fun. but no!! that was all the firewood we got for the night! thank god we didn't slack off and played in the snow instead. after all the chopping and sawing, it was already 3pm and we finally got our late late lunch in the bbq house. it's a little hut with a fire pit in the middle and a huge chimney to draw the smoke away. there was a roaring fire when we went in and we were so excited to come in from the cold 'coz fire meant warmth! but it didn't really work. haha. we were still cold somehow. lunch was curry seasoned chicken breasts that we had to bbq for ourselves with grills and rice and tomato sauce. it was delicious! maybe 'coz we were really cold and hungry. haha. here's bb grilling chicken for me:
by the time we were done with lunch, the skies had already turned dark and we finally moved our stuff into the hut and settled down. the boys began to try lighting the fire place. there was this "instruction manual" given on the table but they concluded that it was generally unhelpful. so in the end, they used toilet paper, old phone books and a couple of matches and managed to get the fire going. that's the hut that we stayed in and the interior of it. there's even a kitchen in that little hut! the entire hut is built out of wood and stone. there are 2 "bedrooms" with one 3 layer bunk bed each and another bed on the other side. there was a "living room" with a table and 2 benches. it was fun to be chatting by candle light around the fireplace. it's like living in the past. we sat around till dinner time trying to gain back the feeling in our toes and chatting with Martin and Daniel, our new found german friends who also study in Linkoping! a couple of guys staying in another cabin also came to check out the hut and we just sat around and talked until we realized that dinner was ready.
dinner was reindeer stew. reindeer meat is very common in lapland where the reindeers are. according to the reindeer keeper, Stek, all the reindeers in sweden are owned by people. meaning there are no wild reindeers around. he also said that reindeer meat could be found in the supermarkets and i checked it out yesterday..it's true! it was about 250kr for a rather huge chunk! reindeer meat is very very low in fat and high in nutrition content by the way. it is also good for keeping the body warm which is why the Sami eat is 'coz saying warm is difficult in the very very cold lapland. the reindeer stew tasted pretty good but the smell was a little too overwhelming for me. it had the muttonish stench. but the stew was really very good in keeping the body warm. everyone started shedding their jackets and scarves and everything a little while into the meal. there are also various stuffed game and a huge bear skin in the kitchen. the 2 guys who worked there even joked that the bear's Henrik's wife. haha.
before i forget, the water in our water bottles were pretty much completely frozen from sitting out in the cold for almost the whole day. that's how cold the weather is. it's hard to explain the coldness when we are from a tropical country. but the temperature difference was a good 50 degC! by now, you should be wondering what we did when nature called, since it's unlikely that there's a sewage system in the wild complete with flushing system, etc. well, there is a toilet for girls, where it was basically a bottomless pit but at least it's in a nice and warm house so you don't have to expose yourself to the cold. for the boys, there was a very special 'P' zone. not parking zone, but pee zone, where they just peed into the snow. what better way to complete the prehistoric experience! back to the happenings of the day. after dinner, we walked down to the torne river in hope to see the northern lights but it was simply too cloudy and we gave up to return to the warmth of our hut. we sat around summore, while teckie and robin pit against each other in english chess and pearline dashing in and out of the hut to see if the sky cleared up. when we were sure that the lights weren't gonna show up, we went to sleep in the cushy sleeping bags on reindeer fur.

i woke up the next day to bb making coffee and tea. we all slept surprisingly well 'coz the sleeping bag was so cosy. it was difficult trying to get out of bed and leaving the warmth of the sleeping bags. but fear not! i had my toe heating pads that my mummy so kindly bought for me.

haha..they're really good! i had warm and normal feeling toes the whole day!

back to breakfast, we had some spiced bread, butter, cheese and marmalade. we also had the falukorv and sausages left over from the previous day's breakfast which were well frozen and preserved in the cold. it's quite funny really, how the ice box is used to keep stuff warm instead of keeping them cold.

after breakfast, we made our way out to have some fun. lucky for us, it was only about -10 degC that day so we could enjoy ourselves more instead of desperately trying to keep ourselves warm.

Stek was with a couple of people in the reindeer pens, teaching them how to lasso a reindeer. The reindeer were quite scary looking with their very very long antlers and they were quite big, kind of like a small pony.

later in the day, bb and me both got to help stek pull a reindeer each from the pens to the kitchen area. i was lucky to get the one without horns and it was very cooperative. bb got the fiercest reindeer of the lot which refused to move. the reindeers are really really strong. even Stek had to cling on to a tree to pull them along.

we went down to the torne river to try some ice fishing and just frolick around in the snow after watching the reindeers. everyone virtually became a little kid, jumping around and rolling around in the snow.

we didn't get any fish probably 'coz the hole was too shallow. but i finally got to make snow angels! and bb became a snow angel addict! haha. it's good exercise. the frozen torne river was really beautiful, being surrounded by trees and mountains. if only i had skates with me! i'd love to skate around on the perfectly clear and smooth ice! but just like in the fairy tales, the ice really does crack and our dear friend Daniel learnt it the hard way. He was at another fishing hole trying to get some fish when he fell in and none of us knew until we went back for lunch! poor thing was really shocked and drenched.

after having our fun on the river for almost 2 hours, we went back to the kitchen for a yummy lunch of smoked reindeer in cream sauce on pasta.

if you ever had the chance to try reindeer, try it! it's really good and doesn't taste like anything else.

there was a little slope next to the sauna and we had alot of fun sliding down the slope on little plastic sleds after lunch.

it was really really fun! we have videos of each of us sliding down the slope, laughing and shrieking like little kids. haha. imagine watching them 10 years down the road and laughing at ourselves.

well, good things have to come to an end somehow and we left the place at about 4pm after taking a couple of group photos. that's us in front of our lappish hut with Daniel and Martin behind Pearline and Juanito, a mexican guy next to bb.

that's us with the reindeer keeper, Stek. check out his boots! they're made of reindeer fur! in fact, so are his pants!

we left the campsite the same way we came in. by dog sleds and snow mobiles. this time, i got to drive a snow mobile and a dog sled! the snow mobile is really easy and great fun while the dog sled was tough 'coz the dogs are so strong and also 'coz the dogs were tired after the way in and just stopped any time they wanted to pee and poop. a dog from teckie and pearline's sled even broke it's harness and tried to run away. and a dog from our sled got one foot stuck in the chains. thank god it didn't break its leg or something.

we finally got out of the boots and jumpsuits, claimed our stuff and Henrik drove us back to civilisation. By this time, my camera had died due to the cold and photos will be updated once i get them from the rest. anyhow, here's a photo of Henrik. bb think he looks like a mafia boss. haha.

i think he looks a little bit like santa claus. but he's a nice man anyways.

it was Chinese New Year's Eve that night. after we got to the apartment and put our stuff down, we set off to the supermarket to buy our reunion dinner. haha. this is part of the reason of this trip. so that we can have a reunion dinner of some sort and spend new year together.

we had tomyum soup with chicken thighs and mushroom and lettuce, onion omelette and mushroom omelette, baked honey glazed chicken thighs, and 9 cakes of 'egg noodles', also known as maggie mee! and ice cream and cocktail for dessert. what a reunion dinner! haha. but it's the company that mattered. we had our dinner and chatted while keeping a look out for northern lights which eventually didn't appear 'coz it was too cloudy again. everyone finally got to shower and went to bed after a tiring day.

day 4-5: Ice Hotel!

i was awakened by the sounds of dogs howling and yelping. there was a bunch of them being herded into their boxes downstairs. probably getting ready for another tour.

after a strange reunion dinner, we made ourselves a good breakfast of toast, french toast, more falukorv and blueberry tea.

after breakfast, we set off for ice hotel. we had to walk to the bus station which was about 15 minutes away. it was once again a very cold -20 degC day. =( the bus station was a very cute, 70s kind of building. the houses in Kiruna are very interesting and different from the ones over here in the south. i really like the house in the middle photo. it looks like a house out of some tacky cowboy movie. haha. and the 3 houses that look like traffic lights too.

we got to ice hotel after a half hour bus ride, on which i called my family to wish everyone Happy Chinese New Year. it was great to hear my mum, dad and grandma sounding so happy!

Ice Hotel is actually a kind of resort place, with alot of cabins by the Torne river. Torne river is 600km long btw. Every year in winter, they will build a giant igloo with the Torne river ice, which is the Ice Hotel. I've read about this ice hotel since i was in my secondary school days and have always dreamt of visiting it. It was really magnificent and it really is a giant igloo. They opened the suites and rooms for visiting everyday and i took like 100 photos at the hotel. the 2 photos at the bottom of the collage are the entrances of the Ice Cathedral and the Ice Hotel respectively.

As you enter the ice hotel, this is what greets you:

Really amazing right? I havent edited this photo at all. This is really how the place looks. It's entirely made out of snow and ice. it's even more amazing to be there in person. here's a close up shot of the ice chandelier that hangs in the main hall: it's really made out of ice. not crystal. and it's really beautiful.

i'm sure many of you have already heard of Absolute Ice Bar. it's in the same igloo but in a different wing from the one in the rooms and suites. it's lounge chairs and tables are carved out of ice and cushioned with reindeer skin.

Obviously they only serve vodka there and there are no fewer than 9 flavours. there's even a pepper flavoured vodka that i'm sure aren't in the Singaporean stores.

we spent some time looking into every suite in the ice hotel. each suite is designed by a different artist from over the world and all had different themes. they were all very nice and looked like giant ice sculptures. the photos are simply too many to put into the blog! we had fun lying on the ice bedsand being silly. and guess what? each room even had a light switch. it's really quite amazing.

The Torne river ice is really clean and clear. It's like glass, only really really cold glass. I would bring a piece back with me if i could. haha.

there's bb looking out onto the frozen river.

the really clear skies tempted us to stay for one more night in hope of seeing the northern lights but we couldn't cancel our train tickets in the end so home we went. the train ride home seemed much shorter than the one there 'coz we all stretched out on 3 seats and slept for most of the way.

We eventually got back to stockholm at 12noon and parted with teckie and pearline. Bb and me then wandered around stockholm till 7pm when we catched the train back to Linkoping. But stockholm shall be for another post.

Tack so mycket to Pearline for organising this wonderful trip! You should consider opening a tour agency in future! See you soon yah?

Okies! time for me to do something more constructive after spending a good 5 hours on this post. Hope you all enjoyed the photos! I will upload them onto some website soon enough. Happy Chinese New Year again! =))

weekend of dinner parties!

We went to 2 dinner parties over the weekend. They were both wonderful and enjoyable! First of all, thanx to the hosts, Martin n Aaron! =)

Here're the photos from Martin's:

Group shot in Martin's living room. Martin's our swedish peer student who has been really kind to show us around town and takes wonderful care of us, speaks Japanese and is learning Mandarin. Haha. Thank you Ma Ding! Ni de ren zhen hao! Also in the photo, we have mr yz, Iliana, who i met in school when she tried to hand me a swedish newspaper in school across the path and i told her i didn't understand swedish and she said i could just look at pictires! what a small world! the one with the peace sign is Martin himself, Bjorn the alcoholic who's also superbly funny n entertaining n who's also intending to stay in India for 3 months! Martin's Dutch peer student Erin and last but not least, Peter who's always late and who always gets teased by the others for his Southern roots. He was early that day! (in the Peter sense: only half an hour late) and we discovered it was 'coz he was wearing a watch. Hahaha. there was also Joaquim who isn't in the photo 'coz god knows where he was. He's like Bjorn's alter ego. I think the two of them will make a very nice stand up comedy act.

These are the wontons i made for Martin in our "introduce Martin to Singapore food" project. Obviously the supermarkets here don't sell wonton skins so i made my own! They turned out a little like mee hoon kuays but it's still yummy compared to not having wontons. I miss the ones I had in Hong Kong! =( Anyhow, it's fun to make wontons and it's wonderful to taste something Singaporean as always.

The food we had for dinner! Singaporean fried rice by Rongwei, Wonton soup from me and Swedish Falukorv stew by Martin! What's Falukorv? You'll find out in a little while. Obviously, there was alcohol too, courtesy of Bjorn and Peter. There was some minty finnish 50% alcohol that smelt like mouthwash which i didn't try, a bailey's smell alike but taste totally different 60% alcohol which i didn't try either, 40% tequila with a cute little mexican hat on the cap and the raspberry absolut vodka which you are all familiar with! Alcohol's good in winter. Really. It keeps you warm for a little while and all the alcohol u consume disappears once the -10degC wind hits your face. Pity Bjorn still didn't get drunk. We're still waiting for the day he does after hearing his drunken antics. Heh.

On Sunday, we went over to Aaron's new room in another corridor:

Aaron is a really nice man we met in our kitchen. He's one of the first people we met in this corridor and the thing is, he didn't even live in this corridor! haha. he used to live upstairs but has since moved 'coz of the state of the kitchens in this building. they're really really dirty! He was really friendly and talked alot to us and that's how we got to know that he's moving to a newer room. And he was really nice to invite us over to his new and much cleaner corridor for dinner. From top left:
1) the ABC soup we made for the dinner. Just a typical Singaporean "auntie" soup with onions, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and some meatballs. yum yums.
2) the common room in Aaron's corridor. Nice and neat and spacious!
3) the boys
4) the girls
5 and 6) the food! we had tandoori and dahl, spanish omelette, sudanese chicken and pineapple crumble, tangyuan!! and fish casserole and ABC soup. As good as a international buffet! yums!
7) the boys again with hats
8) and 9) girls in the very clean kitchen doing the dishes.

it was a really wonderful dinner. we met people from different countries. There was a sudanese couple, a chinese couple from Harbin, 3 indian nationals, a spanish man and a Singaporean girl who's doing her masters. They're all really nice and friendly! And i've never felt so good speaking Singlish before! I had no idea how important Singlish is to me! Shiok shiok shiok!!

Anyway, one thing Lina (the Singaporean girl) said that night was really true. She has been away from home for long periods before and she said she always take photos of the food she has 'coz it will help you remember what you were doing at the point in time and what people you met. I totally agree! that's why this blog has primarily been based on the food we're eating.

Can't wait for the next dinner party with this bunch of wonderful people. I'll definitely introduce some of my other friends from school to them to widen the interesting mix of people.

Speaking of friends from school, here's a photo i took today with Pavol, a Slovakian guy and Chiara, an Italian girl.

I met Pavol the 2nd day i was here when Martin met up with his Slovakian peer student, Andrea. And it so happened that we were in the same Cryptology course (which i have decided to drop 'coz it's damn tough!). I just met Chiara today when she came to talk to Pavol. She knows Luca too! Haha. Gotta party with them one day. This photo was taken after lab today where we were supposed to solve some Cryptograms using some silly program on the computer. That explains the tired faces.

Now, onto the food part of this post! The first cup of coffee i've had since i reached Linkoping! Not that i usually drink alot of coffee but we're supposed to be here to Lim Kopi right? So there. My first cup of Caffe Latte which wasn't very nice 'coz it's abit too thin and not sweet enough. blah. Mandarin Oranges!! haha..only that it's not called mandarin oranges over here. The 'gam' they have here's really small. Smaller than palm size but very very sweet. I don't think i've seen this particular kind in Singapore before. It'd be really nice and cute to bai nian with. Oh! i miss chinese new year! =( all the new year goodies. egg rolls!!! almond cookies!!! BAKGUA!!! haha.. and i'm sure i'll miss visiting with my family and the mad rush to get new clothes. miss xueli, u better save my ang baos for me okay!! my 2nd attempt at biscotti! dark chocolate brownie biscotti for bb since he likes dark chocolate. the smell's stuck in the kitchen and our neighbour smelt it so i offered him some. haha. he says its good! he has to right. duh. i also made green bean soup while mixing the dough! and i cleaned the kithen while baking! efficiency! and now, the answer to the falukorv mystery! falukorv is that huge sausage in the top left photo. look at the sheer size of it compared to the tomato! and this is a small one already. there's another one that's twice the length of this! haha..it's a traditional Swedish food that tastes kinda like luncheon meat. As you can see, i sliced it and panfried it as sandwich filling. Portobello mushrooms and tomatoes grilled with cheese and garlic also went into my gourmet sandwich! it's yummy! oh! and the huge sausage only costs 15 SEK. that's less than 4 sing dollars! haha. i think i'll be having alot of falukorv in the near future.make that the very very near future! we had falukorv stew with pasta that very night. haha. finally, presenting to you, Happy Sunday Crepe! haha..crepe layered with orange marmalade and raspberry jam and tangerine slices all around it! cute isn't it? almost too cute to eat!

Okie dokes! time to go make some falukorv and fried potatoes for supper! and yes! it's from that same huge sausage. wonderful, magical sausage.
